Summer heat waves affect the young and the adults, most especially the elderly. Our bodies normally controls and regulates rising temperature through perspiration and evaporation . But as we grow older, the ability of our body to do so gradually decreases. Ageing decreases the ability of the body to adjust and sense temperature changes, in this case, extreme heat. Prone to heat waves ar elderly with heart, kidney and lung diseases. Medicines that they take for maintenance of a certain sickness or disease can contribute to lowering the ability for these people to perspire. Some conditions brought about by such high heat for a long period of time are heat cramps, heat exhaustion,the worst is heat stroke. To prevent this symptoms from ever occuring to you or your family, the first and most effective way is to drink a considerable amount of water. This will help replenish fluids lost. 8 glasses might not be enough. 2-4 glasses every hour can help you prevent dehydration.
